Softball Recap: Calumet New Tech Drops Season-High Score on Merrillville

Calumet New Tech extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 24 on Monday, dropping their season record down to 0-10 in the process. They lost 30-12 to the Merrillville Pirates. On the bright side, the 12- run effort marked the Warriors' highest-scoring contest to date.

As for Merrillville, their win ended a six-game drought on the road and puts them at 3-21. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.

For Merrillville's part, the team relied heavily on Alaysia Haney, who got on base in five of her six plate appearances with four stolen bases, four runs, and five RBI. Those five RBI gave Haney a new career-high. Adrianna McDonald was another key player, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.

Coming up, Calumet New Tech will face off against East Chicago Central at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Merrillville, they will challenge Chesterton at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Trojans have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 6.95 runs per game on average), something the Pirates will no doubt try to take advantage of.
