Baseball Game Preview: Madison Mustangs vs. McNairy Central Bobcats

Madison hasn't had much luck against McNairy Central recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Mustangs will square off against the Bobcats at 6:20 p.m. Madison is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.3 runs per game this season.

Madison fell victim to Riverside and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They came up short against the Panthers, falling 11-0. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since April 19, 2023, but that streak is no more.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when McNairy Central duked it out with Hardin County on Tuesday. The Bobcats had just enough and edged out the Tigers 5-4. The victory was familiar territory for the Bobcats, who have now won three contests in a row.

Case Rickman made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out six batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Case Stone, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI. Luke King also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.

Madison's loss dropped their record down to 12-8-1. As for McNairy Central, their record now sits at 11-8.

Madison suffered a grim 13-3 defeat to McNairy Central in their previous matchup back in May of 2017. Can the Mustangs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
