Baseball Recap: Island Coast Triumphs

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Island Coast ultimately got the result they hoped for on Monday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Barron Collier Cougars, sneaking past 4-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Gators have posted since March 4th.

Grady Schwiezer tossed a big game, striking out seven batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in February.

On the hitting side, Island Coast's win was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Logan Hawkins, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

Island Coast pushed their record up to 17-6 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Barron Collier, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 16-6.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Island Coast will host Riverview Sarasota at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Barron Collier, they will look to defend their home field on Thursday against IMG Academy Gray at 7:00 p.m.
