Pius X lost to Millard West back in March of 2021, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Saturday. The Pius X Thunderbolts pulled ahead with a 56-55 photo finish over the Millard West Wildcats. Given the Thunderbolts' advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 26th, while the Wildcats are ranked 97th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Despite the loss, Millard West saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Cade Walker dropped a double-double on 16 points and 13 boards. Walker is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 45% in the last 13 games he's played. Another player making a difference was Trey Abara, who posted seven points.

Pius X's victory bumped their record up to 12-8. As for Millard West, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost eight of their last nine games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-12 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Pius X will venture away from home to take on Gretna at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in Pius X's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last seven matchups. As for Millard West, they will head out on the road to challenge Bryan at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Millard West is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 59 points per game this season.
