Basketball Recap: River Ridge Comes Up Short

River Ridge fought the good fight in their overtime contest against Lincoln on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Lincoln Abes by a score of 64-61. The Hawks have been going strong on the season, but this is now their second loss in a row.

When it comes to explaining why River Ridge lost, don't look at Brandi Stanford. Despite the final result, she posted 27 points along with seven rebounds and six assists. Stanford's evening made it ten games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Jayla Cavalier, who earned 11 points in addition to five boards and three steals.

Even though they lost, River Ridge smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in ten consecutive matchups.

River Ridge's defeat dropped their record down to 16-6. As for Lincoln, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 10-10.

River Ridge will challenge Lakes at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. River Ridge is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 55.8 points per game this season. As for Lincoln, they will take on Bellarmine Prep at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Lincoln knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past four games -- so hopefully Bellarmine Prep likes a good challenge.
