Baseball Game Preview: Avalon Eagles vs. Mildred Eagles

We've got a battle between Eagles coming up. Avalon is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8 runs per game this season.

Last Saturday, Avalon got the win against Non Varsity Opponent by a conclusive 10-4. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four matches by six runs or more this season.

Jackson Osbourn tossed a big game, striking out nine batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits (and not a single walk). He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up a single walk any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, Kade Johnson was a standout: he scored three runs and stole five bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. He is becoming a predictor of Avalon's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 1-4-1 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Shawn McEwen, who scored a run and stole three bases while going 2-for-3.

Meanwhile, while Mildred put up some runs on Wednesday, the same can't be said for Cayuga. Mildred narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Cayuga 2-0. The two-run effort marked the Eagles' lowest-scoring contest of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

Mildred is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.1 runs over those games. Avalon now has a winning record of 5-4-1.
