Sandia Prep is 2-8 against Robertson since September of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Saturday. The Sundevils will be playing at home against the Cardinals at 11:00 a.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.
For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Sandia Prep and Cottonwood Classical Prep meet (three straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Tuesday. The Sundevils fell just short of the Coyotes by a score of 3-2. While the Sundevils didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Coyotes 25-19 in the first set.
Sandia Prep actually scored more points across those five sets (104-98), but sadly they still had to settle for second. The match finished with set scores of 19-25, 12-25, 25-23, 25-16, 17-15.
Meanwhile, Robertson came up short against West Las Vegas on Tuesday, falling 3-0. The Cardinals have struggled against the Dons recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Robertson was was forced to take the loss, but they sure made West Las Vegas work for it, especially in the second set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-13, 29-27, 25-12.
Robertson's defeat dropped their record down to 7-10. As for Sandia Prep, their loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 12-4.
Everything went Sandia Prep's way against Robertson in their previous matchup last Saturday, as Sandia Prep made off with a 3-0 victory. Do the Sundevils have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Cardinals turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
