Baseball Recap: Ferris Has No Trouble Against Hillsboro

Ferris barely beat Hillsboro the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Ferris Yellowjackets' pitchers stepped up to hand the Hillsboro Eagles a 9-0 shutout on Tuesday. That looming 9-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Yellowjackets yet this season.

Gavin Garcia made a splash while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 11 over six innings pitched. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in strikeouts. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing Three bases. while going 1-for-4. He is becoming a predictor of Ferris' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 3-0-1 (and 1-5-2 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ky Creek, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Aiden Guzman, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.

Ferris' victory bumped their record up to 4-5-3. As for Hillsboro, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-6 record this season.

Ferris will venture away from home to square off against Godley at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Godley will roll in looking for their sixth straight win, something Ferris surely won't give up without a fight. As for Hillsboro, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Venus at 7:00 p.m.
