Basketball Recap: Covington Sets Scoring Season-High Against North Vermillion

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Covington had no problem doing just that on Tuesday. They blew past the North Vermillion Falcons 72-46. The Trojans' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Covington's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Austin Stein, who dropped a double-double with 14 points and 13 assists. Covington is 6-1 when Stein posts eight or more assists, but 6-12 otherwise. Creux Rieman was another key player, shooting 58% from the field on his way to 18 points and four steals.

Stein wasn't the only one working in the assist department: Covington was working as a unit and finished the game with 21 assists. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their assist total in three consecutive contests.

North Vermillion lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Lane Thomann, who went 8-for-18 en route to 19 points and seven boards. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in rebounds. Another player making a difference was Matthew Dawson, who almost dropped a double-double with ten points and nine boards.

Covington's record is now 12-13. As for North Vermillion, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 16-8.

Coming up, Covington will take on Faith Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Faith Christian has been dominant on offense recently, having racked up an incredible 189 points over their last three matchups. North Vermillion does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
