Preview: Elgin/Pope John Wolfpack vs. Boyd County Spartans
The Elgin/Pope John Wolfpack will be staying on the road on Saturday to face off against the Boyd County Spartans at 6:30 p.m. on January 27th.
While Elgin/Pope John couldn't quite beat Central Valley on Tuesday, the three-point margin was a huge improvement compared to the 21-point defeat they were dealt on Friday. Elgin/Pope John fell just short of Central Valley by a score of 42-39. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat Elgin/Pope John has suffered yet this season.
Meanwhile, Boyd County didn't have too much trouble with Burke at home on Thursday as they won 57-40.
Boyd County got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Derris Hansen out in front who scored 16 points along with eight rebounds and five steals. Charlie Adams was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Elgin/Pope John's loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 8-6. As for Boyd County, their win ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 6-9.
Elgin/Pope John was able to grind out a solid victory over Boyd County in their previous meeting back in December of 2023, winning 51-38. Will Elgin/Pope John repeat their success, or does Boyd County have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
