Baseball Game Preview: Jordan Panthers vs. Lakewood Lancers

Jordan hasn't had much luck against Lakewood recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Panthers will head out to challenge the Lancers at 4:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Jordan has four straight victories, Lakewood has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

On Wednesday, Jordan got the win against Compton by a conclusive 11-5. Considering the Panthers have won eight matches by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Julian Lopez spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on four hits and racked up nine Ks.

At the plate, Talin Velazquez was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and one stolen base. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Cris Aleman also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.

The scorekeeper got an easy start on Wednesday as neither Lakewood nor Woodrow Wilson made it on the board until the sixth inning. The Lancers lost 7-0 to the Bruins.

Lakewood saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Angelo Ortiz, who went 2-for-3 with one double.

Lakewood's loss dropped their record down to 10-13. As for Jordan, they now have a winning record of 11-10-1.

Jordan suffered a grim 11-0 defeat to Lakewood in their previous meeting back in March. Can the Panthers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
