Baseball Recap: Wiley Takes a Loss

Wiley extended their losing streak to four on Tuesday, dropping them down to 7-8-1. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 4-3 heartbreaker at the hands of the Eads Eagles. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Eagles this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 4-1 on Tuesday.

Grant Mauch was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-2 with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

As for Eads, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 7-0. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average this season.

On Eads' side, Johnathan Vasquez and Shaine Winder did most of the damage at the plate: Vasquez went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI, while Winder went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one triple, and one run. Winder is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. Adyn Hough was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.

Looking ahead, Wiley will square off against Springfield at 2:00 p.m. on Friday. The Panthers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Longhorns have averaged an impressive 6.3 runs per game this season. As for Eads, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Evangel Christian Academy at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.
