Basketball Recap: True North Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Jonas Matthews and Kavan Coffel

True North suffered their closest defeat since January 25, 2024 on Tuesday. They fell just short of the Still Creek Christian Colts by a score of 50-47. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Colts this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 51-33 back in January.

Despite the loss, True North had strong showings from Kavan Coffel, who posted 17 points, and Jonas Matthews, who scored 16 points. The dominant performance gave Matthews a new career-high in points.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Still Creek Christian to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jaiden Simpson, who went 8-for-18 en route to 18 points and eight assists. The match was Simpson's third in a row with at least 16 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jeremy Reed, who dropped a double-double with 12 points and 16 rebounds.

True North's defeat dropped their record down to 1-6. As for Still Creek Christian, they are on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 13 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 19-7 record this season.

True North wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 42-32 win against Spring Baptist Academy on the 6th. As for Still Creek Christian, they have also already played their next match, a 56-27 victory against Non Varsity Opponent on the 6th.
