Houston County came tearing into Saturday's matchup with eight straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 15.1 points) and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top against the Northside Eagles by a score of 58-50. Given the Bears' advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 37th, while the Eagles are ranked 230th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Houston County's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Malik Gillespie led the charge by going 6 of 15 on his way to 18 points and four steals. That's the most steals Gillespie has posted since back in December of 2023. The team also got some help courtesy of Josh Jackson, who went 5 for 11 en route to 15 points and five rebounds.

Houston County's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-4. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.4 points per game. As for Northside, their loss dropped their record down to 9-9.

Houston County will take on Veterans at 4:30 p.m. on January 25th. Veterans has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Northside, they will challenge Warner Robins at 5:30 p.m. on January 25th.
