Basketball Recap: Owen Comes Up Short

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Owen can now relate to. They were outmatched by the Shelby Golden Lions and fell 95-65. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Warhorses have suffered since December 13, 2023.

Despite the loss, Owen had strong showings from Jack Wesley Burk, who shot 56% from the field on his way to 22 points and five rebounds, and Asante Martin, who posted 16 points. The game was Martin's seventh in a row with at least 15 points. Jackson Warnock was another key player, putting up seven points and 11 boards.

Owen's defeat dropped their record down to 19-7. As for Shelby, they pushed their record up to 20-7 with the win, which was their 12th straight at home.

Owen does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Shelby, they will take on Bandys on Tuesday. Shelby knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past 18 contests -- so hopefully Bandys likes a good challenge.
