Baseball Game Preview: Olathe Pirates vs. Basalt Longhorns

The Olathe Pirates will venture away from home to take on the Basalt Longhorns at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Olathe has given up an average of 8.1 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Olathe came up short against Meeker on Saturday, falling 12-3. The defeat continues a trend for the Pirates in their meetings with the Cowboys: they've now lost nine in a row.

Olathe saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Bridger Vincent, who went 1-for-3 with two runs. The Pirates are 5-1 when Vincent posts two or more runs, but 4-7 otherwise.

Meanwhile, Basalt came up short against Roaring Fork on Saturday and fell 4-1.

Olathe's loss dropped their record down to 9-8. As for Basalt, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-4.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Olathe has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.6 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Basalt struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.

Olathe might still be hurting after the 10-3 loss they got from Basalt in their previous meeting back in March. Can the Pirates avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
