Basketball Recap: Reading Comes Up Short

If Reading was riding high fresh off their 44-20 takedown of Mendon last Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Reading Rangers were beaten by the Concord Yellowjackets 52-22 on Wednesday. The matchup marked the Rangers' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Despite the loss, Reading still got an impressive performance from Aubree Ervans, who posted 12 points and six boards.

Concord's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Bradie Lehman, who dropped a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds. What's more, Lehman racked up eight assists, the most she's had since back in March of 2024. Grace Thorrez was another key player, shooting 75% from the field on her way to 15 points and seven boards.

Reading moved to 15-11 with that defeat, which also ended their four-game winning streak. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 26.5 points on average over those games. As for Concord, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-4 record this season.

Reading does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Concord, they will be taking part in a tournament against Zion Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Zion Christian will roll in looking for their 11th straight win, something Concord surely won't give up without a fight.
