Softball Recap: Mundelein Extends Winning Streak to Four

Mundelein waltzed into their matchup on Thursday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They beat the Lake Forest Scouts by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 18-1. The result was nothing new for the Mustangs, who have now won 13 games by six runs or more so far this season.

Sophia Zepeda was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Zepeda was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs and one RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, Claire Connelly was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Kieley Tomas, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.

Mundelein always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .793. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Mundelein's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 20-8. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Lake Forest, they are on a 15-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-22.

Looking ahead, Mundelein will take on Lincoln-Way Central at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Knights will roll in looking for their 19th straight victory, something the Mustangs surely won't give up without a fight. As for Lake Forest, they will square off against Grayslake North at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
