League recap: Lindsey breaks off league-leading run for Williamsville

Josh Lindsey of Williamsville ran for the longest rushing play in Sangamo this season against Pleasant Plains last week. Lindsey ran for 75 yards on the play and finished with 126 on the day as his team topped the Cardinals.

Athens/Greenview was the team that made the biggest jump in the rankings, moving from seventh to fifth in the league. Earlier in the week, the Warriors defeated Pawnee 43-14.

New Berlin/Franklin/Waverly's offense was unstoppable this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Jake Hunt threw for 169 yards and Chase Creviston had 81 yards receiving. On the ground Tyler Cloyd contributed 133 yards. Cam Cummings helped New Berlin/Franklin/Waverly's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 27 yards.

The Scotties/Pretzels' offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver.

Hunt and Cloyd gave New Berlin/Franklin/Waverly a balanced attack in passing and rushing last week. Teammate Cummings added to the ground attack by rushing for 32 yards.

Cloyd was the best running back in Sangamo this week.

The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place Williamsville takes on second place New Berlin/Franklin/Waverly. Last week, Aaron Kunz's team topped Brad Pugh's team, while New Berlin/Franklin/Waverly beat the Hawks.

One of the league's premier quarterbacks will go head-to-head with its top pass rusher when the Scotties/Pretzels and the Bullets face off next week. Hunt has thrown for 546 yards and 5 touchdowns this season, while John Karras has plagued opposing QBs to the tune of 4.0 sacks.

The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when New Berlin/Franklin/Waverly takes on Williamsville. The Scotties/Pretzels have allowed 45 points this season, while the Bullets have given up 26. New Berlin/Franklin/Waverly allowed 21 points last week as it beat Riverton.

There should be lots of points scored when the Scotties/Pretzels and Williamsville face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, New Berlin/Franklin/Waverly comes in having scored 86 this season, while the Bullets have scored 140. The Scotties/Pretzels scored 27 points last week as they topped the Hawks.

PORTA/Ashland-Chandlerville Central moved up to 361 from 454 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Bluejays climbed the ranks as a result of topping Sangamon Valley/Tri-City 38-6.
