Football Game Preview: Cardinal Newman Crusaders vs. Benjamin Buccaneers + Official Tickets

After each having a week off, the Cardinal Newman Crusaders and the Benjamin Buccaneers will shake off the rust and duke it out at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.

Cardinal Newman is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Florida's top teams: Buchholz, who was ranked 12th at the time (Cardinal Newman was ranked 21st). The Crusaders fell 34-30 to the Bobcats two weeks ago. The Crusaders' defeat signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.

Despite the loss, Cardinal Newman got top-tier performance from Jyron Hughley, who rushed for 175 yards and a pair of TDs while picking up 9.7 yards per carry, and also threw for 252 yards and one touchdown while completing 72.7% of his passes. Hughley's rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his fourth straight game with at least 103 rushing yards. Cardinal Newman's leading receiver Leslie Mosley was Hughley's top target yet again, picking up 205 receiving yards and one score.

Meanwhile, after soaring to 31 points the game before, Benjamin was a bit more limited in their game two weeks ago. They had to suffer through a 35-3 loss at the hands of Saint Andrew's.

Benjamin's defeat dropped their record down to 3-7. As for Cardinal Newman, their loss dropped their record down to 7-3.

Everything came up roses for Cardinal Newman against Benjamin in their previous meeting back in September, as the team secured a 47-0 win. Do the Crusaders have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Buccaneers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
