Football Game Preview: East Lake Eagles vs. St. Petersburg Green Devils

The East Lake Eagles will square off against the St. Petersburg Green Devils at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few points on average (East Lake 6.9, St. Petersburg 10.6) so any points scored will be well earned.

East Lake is probably headed into the matchup with a chip on their shoulder considering Tarpon Springs just ended the team's seven-game winning streak on Wednesday. They fell 6-0 to the Spongers. The shutout was out of character for the Eagles seeing as the last time the team failed to score was back in February.

East Lake didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Adanya Canezo and Sienna Zaccardo.

Meanwhile, St. Petersburg entered their tilt with Gibbs on Thursday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They came within a single point of losing the streak, but they secured a 7-6 W against the Gladiators.

St. Petersburg's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-3. Those road wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 4.5 points on average over those games. As for East Lake, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-3.

East Lake came up short against St. Petersburg in their previous matchup back in March of 2021, falling 14-8. Can the Eagles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
