Basketball Recap: Wilcox County Gets the Win

Wilcox County posted their closest victory since January 16, 2024 on Saturday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 58-56 win over the Hawkinsville Red Devils. The Patriots didn't have much to brag about two games back, but this victory makes it their second in a row.

Hawkinsville's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Bryson Singletary, who went 9 for 11 en route to 21 points. Singletary has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more steals the last 17 times he's played. Another player making a difference was Nieem Blair, who posted 18 points and three steals.

Wilcox County's win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 4-10. As for Hawkinsville, their loss was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 5-1 and their overall record down to 8-8.

Wilcox County is taking a road trip to take on Crisp County at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Crisp County will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something Wilcox County surely won't give up without a fight. As for Hawkinsville, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Telfair County at 7:30 p.m. Hawkinsville is facing Telfair County at the right time seeing as Telfair County is stuck on a 12-game losing streak.
