Soccer Game Preview: George Washington vs. Winfield

The George Washington Patriots will venture away from home to challenge the Winfield Generals at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. George Washington is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last six games.

George Washington is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of West Virginia's top teams: University, who was ranked tenth at the time (George Washington was ranked second). The Patriots' defense stepped up to hand the Hawks a 4-0 shutout on Saturday. Considering George Washington have won 11 matches by more than two goals this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

They hit University with a three-pronged attack, as the team got scores from Mia Lough (2), Ellie Pray, and Elizabeth Blanchard.

Meanwhile, Winfield's game on Thursday was all tied up 0-0 at the half, but luckily for them it didn't stay that way. They had just enough and edged out Woodrow Wilson 1-0.

George Washington's record now sits at 16-2-1. As for Winfield, they now have a winning record of 6-5-1.

George Washington took their victory against Winfield when the teams last played back in October of 2020 by a conclusive 5-0 score. Will the Patriots repeat their success, or do the Generals have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
