Softball Recap: Sierra Vista Has No Trouble Against Nogales

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Schurr, Sierra Vista was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. Everything went their way against the Nogales Nobles as they made off with a 25-3 win. The Dons might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four matchups by seven runs or more this season.

Isabella Ortega made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off ten hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with three RBI. Those two hits gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Sierra Vista let Daisy Ovalle and Kayla Iniguez run wild. Ovalle scored five runs while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances, while Iniguez got on base in all six of her plate appearances with three runs, four RBI, and one double. The dominant performance also gave Ovalle a new career-high in hits (three). Another player making a difference was Ariana Gutierrez, who got on base in three of her six plate appearances with three runs and four RBI.

Sierra Vista always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .633. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Nogales only posted an OBP of .400.

Sierra Vista now has a winning record of 7-6. As for Nogales, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost seven of their last eight contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-10 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Sierra Vista will take on Baldwin Park at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Dons are facing the Braves at the right time seeing as the Braves are stuck on a ten-game losing streak. As for Nogales, they will square off against Garey at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday. The Vikings have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.42 runs per game on average), something the Nobles will no doubt try to take advantage of.
