Baseball Recap: Westfield Victorious

Westfield's game on Tuesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Thursday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the St. Benedict's Prep Gray Bees a 17-0 shutout. The Blue Devils might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four matchups by seven runs or more this season.

Jack Doherty looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Pete Cabrales, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, three RBI, and one double. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Braeden Trajkovski, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

Westfield's victory bumped their record up to 9-4. As for St. Benedict's Prep, their loss dropped their record down to 5-11.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Westfield will head out to square off against Summit at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. As for St. Benedict's Prep, they will challenge West Essex on Friday. The Knights' pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so the Gray Bees' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
