Volleyball Game Preview: Shaktoolik Wolverines vs. Koyuk Malimiut Malemutes

The Shaktoolik Wolverines will head out on the road to square off against the Koyuk Malimiut Malemutes on Friday.

Shaktoolik had taken Martin L Olson down for two straight games at home, but that winning streak came to an end on Saturday. The Wolverines fell just short of the Lynx by a score of 3-2. While the Wolverines didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Lynx 25-18 in the first set.

While Shaktoolik ultimately came up short, they really made Martin L Olson work, particularly in the third set. The final score came out to 18-25, 25-22, 27-25, 25-27, 15-11.

Meanwhile, Koyuk Malimiut earned a 3-1 victory over Gambell last Saturday. The win continues a trend for the Malemutes in their matchups with the King Polar Bear: they've now won five in a row.

Koyuk Malimiut had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first set, they turned around to win the next three. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 19-25, 25-15, 25-22, 25-18.

Koyuk Malimiut's victory bumped their record up to 7-1. As for Shaktoolik, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-2.

Shaktoolik skirted past Koyuk Malimiut 3-2 when the teams last played back in April of 2021. Will the Wolverines repeat their success, or do the Malemutes have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
