Baseball Recap: Grace Davis Wins Going Away Against Modesto Christian

Grace Davis was handed a heart-breaking two-run defeat in their last match, but they sure didn't let that happen against Modesto Christian on Saturday. The Grace Davis Spartans were the clear victor by a 22-2 margin over the Modesto Christian Crusaders. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Spartans' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.

Grace Davis got a great performance from David Apple as he struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits.

On the hitting side, Mendoza Oscar and Landon McCay did most of the damage at the plate: Oscar got on base in three of his five plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and four RBI, while McCay scored four runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. The dominant performance also gave McCay a new career-high in hits (three). Logan Ariza was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.

Grace Davis always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .605. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Modesto Christian only posted an OBP of .227.

The win got Grace Davis back to even at 2-2. As for Modesto Christian, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-4.

Looking ahead, Grace Davis will be playing in front of their home fans against Big Valley Christian at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Grace Davis' pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so Big Valley Christian's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Modesto Christian, they will head out on the road to challenge Turlock Christian at 6:30 p.m. on Monday.
