 Derry couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They took  a  6-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Serra Catholic Eagles on Friday.
 Derry got a good showing from  Nate Papuga, who   pitched 2.2 innings while giving up   no  earned runs off   two  hits (he also didn't allow any  walks).
 At the plate, Derry saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was  Collin Bush, who  went 2-for-2 with  an  RBI.
 Even though they lost, Derry  didn't let batters stay on the plate for long and  finished the game with ten  strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Serra Catholic only tossed four.
 On Serra Catholic's side,  Owen Dumbroski was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he  pitched three innings while giving up   no  earned runs off   two  hits (he also didn't allow any  walks). Dumbroski was also big at the plate,  scoring a  run while  getting on base  in three of his five plate appearances.
 The  win  made it two in a row for Serra Catholic and  bumps their season record up to 3-1.
 Both  squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Derry will take on Freeport at 4:15  p.m.  on Monday. As for Serra Catholic, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Apollo Ridge at 4:00  p.m.  on Monday. Serra Catholic is strutting in with some hitting muscle, as they've averaged 7.2  runs per game this season.
