Basketball Recap: Mt. Vernon's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Saturday

It was fun while it lasted, but Mt. Vernon's undefeated season came to an end after seven games on Saturday. They fell just short of the Washington Warriors by a score of 59-56. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Mustangs came into the matchup with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Iowa basketball rankings (they are ranked 32nd, while the Warriors are ranked 152nd).

Having lost for the first time this season, Mt. Vernon fell to 7-1. As for Washington, they moved to 8-5 with that victory, which also ended their five-game losing streak.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mt. Vernon will head out to face off against South Tama County at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Washington, they will venture away from home to square off against Jefferson at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Washington is facing Jefferson at the right time seeing as Jefferson is stuck on an eight-game losing streak.
