Softball Recap: Jack Britt Takes a Loss

Jack Britt fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Lumberton on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Lumberton Pirates by a score of 7-6. The defeat continues a trend for the Buccaneers in their meetings with the Pirates: they've now lost eight in a row.

Madisyn Norton spent all nine innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and five unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up nine Ks.

On the hitting side, Ashanthy Marcano made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. Sophie Casagrande was another key player, going 2-for-5 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Marcano wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Jack Britt kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 13 hits in three consecutive contests.

Jack Britt's loss dropped their record down to 3-3. As for Lumberton, the victory snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 2-3 record.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Jack Britt will head out to face off against Purnell Swett at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Lumberton, they will venture away from home to square off against South View at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. South View's pitching crew has only allowed one run per game this season, so Lumberton's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
