Baseball Recap: Great Bridge Has No Trouble Against Indian River

Great Bridge had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the ten-run drubbing they dealt Indian River on Tuesday. The Wildcats were the clear victors by a 16-6 margin over the Braves. The Wildcats might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matchups by six runs or more this season.

The team relied heavily on Adam Bartley, who went 4-for-5 with one home run, eight RBI, and three runs. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Jaxen Whitehurst, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, one triple, and one stolen base.

Great Bridge was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .475. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Indian River only posted a batting average of .296.

Great Bridge's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-5. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games. As for Indian River, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-11 record this season.

Great Bridge will head out to face off against Kempsville at 5:45 p.m. on Wednesday. The Chiefs' pitching crew has only allowed 3.7 runs per game this season, so the Wildcats' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Indian River, they will be playing at home against Oscar Smith at 5:45 p.m. on Thursday.
