Basketball Recap: Briggs Takes a Loss

Briggs was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their seventh straight defeat. They were outmatched by the Walnut Ridge Scots and fell 89-54. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bruins this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 82-26 back in December of 2024.

Walnut Ridge's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Marquis Lucas, who went 7 of 13 on his way to 18 points along with seven rebounds and six steals. The dominant performance gave Lucas a new career-high in steals. Jahleel Wakeel was another key player, going 9 for 11 en route to 20 points.

Briggs' loss dropped their record down to 3-11. As for Walnut Ridge, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 11-3.

Briggs has already played their next game, a 63-53 defeat against Canal Winchester on the 18th. As for Walnut Ridge, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Eastmoor Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Walnut Ridge knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past eight matches -- so hopefully Eastmoor Academy likes a good challenge.
