Baseball Recap: Kelliher/Northome Mustangs vs. Pine River-Backus Tigers
Kelliher/Northome had lost 12 straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 0-6 to make it 13. They lost 25-6 to the Pine River-Backus Tigers. If the Mustangs were looking for revenge after losing 12-0 to the Tigers when the teams met back in May of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.
As for Pine River-Backus, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-6. With that victory, they brought their scoring average up to 7.2 runs per game.
For Pine River-Backus' part, Eli Abraham made a splash no matter where he played. He tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Abraham was even better at the plate, going 3-for-4 with six RBI and one double. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Pine River-Backus got a massive performance out of Grady Mongan, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with five stolen bases and three runs. The Tigers are undefeated when Mongan posts two or more runs, but 3-6 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Jonathan Shogren, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI.
