Volleyball Game Preview: Everglades Gators vs. St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders

The Everglades Gators will head out on the road to take on the St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Having struggled with three losses in a row, Everglades turned things around against Franklin Academy on Wednesday. They blew past the Panthers 3-0. The Gators not only won on Wednesday, but they posted their biggest win since April 24, 2024.

Everglades not only won, but also showed off some consistency: they kept Franklin Academy between 16 and 17 points across their sets. The final score came out to 25-16, 25-16, 25-17.

St. Thomas Aquinas extended their winning streak to three games thanks to a huge performance from Adriano Chiabra. The Raiders came within a single set of losing the streak, but they secured a 3-2 W against Western thanks in part to Chiabra, who had 22 assists and four digs. He is on a roll when it comes to assists, as he's now posted 13 or more in each of the last four games he's played.

St. Thomas Aquinas took Western into a fifth set where they got it done with a two-point win. The match finished with set scores of 22-25, 25-23, 25-16, 23-25, 15-13.

Everglades picked up their first home win, bumping their record up to 2-6. As for St. Thomas Aquinas, they now have a winning record of 9-8.

Everglades might still be hurting after the 3-0 defeat they got from St. Thomas Aquinas when the teams last played back in March of 2023. Can the Gators avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
