Basketball Recap: West Warwick Falls Short Against Ranked Ponaganset

On Wednesday, West Warwick faced Ponaganset in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The West Warwick Wizards took a 51-40 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Ponaganset Chieftains. The loss continues a trend for the Wizards in their matchups with the Chieftains: they've now lost three in a row.

Despite the defeat, West Warwick had strong showings from Shanna Correia, who posted 12 points, and Lex Foley, who scored nine points and six steals. The dominant performance gave Correia a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Brea Lima, who earned five points in addition to seven boards and five steals.

West Warwick's loss dropped their record down to 9-11. As for Ponaganset, their victory was their 15th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 16-2.
