Baseball Recap: Niles West Wins Going Away Against Niles North

Niles West had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the ten-run drubbing they dealt Niles North on Thursday. The Wolves put the hurt on the Vikings with a sharp 11-1 win. That's the third time they've managed to beat them this season, with their most recent victory being a 6-5 win on Tuesday.

Shaylen Patel spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on five hits and racked up seven Ks. Those seven strikeouts set a new season-high mark for him.

On the hitting side, Kevin Foley was a standout: he went 1-for-2 with three RBI and one run. Scott Stewart was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Niles West has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-11 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.8 runs over those games. As for Niles North, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-10-1.

Coming up, Niles West will take on Deerfield at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday. As for Niles North, they will challenge Zion-Benton at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Vikings are facing the Zee-Bees at the right time seeing as the Zee-Bees are stuck on a three-game losing streak.
