Basketball Recap: Hillsborough Comes Up Short

Hillsborough lost against Sickles back in November of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Hillsborough Terriers took a blow against the Sickles Gryphons, falling 74-12. While losing is never fun, the Terriers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 463rd, while the Gryphons are ranked 139th).

Robin Bailey and Jaylesia James certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Bailey posted five points, while James put up four points.

Sickles was led to victory by Jadyn Watts and Kelsey Sharpe. Watts dropped a double-double on 26 points and ten rebounds, while Sharpe dropped a double-double on 28 points and ten assists. The game was Watts' 13th in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Sadie Jones, who scored six points along with ten boards and five blocks.

Hillsborough has traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last eight contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-11 record this season. As for Sickles, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 16-7.

Hillsborough wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 50-47 loss against Plant City on the 28th. As for Sickles, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 56-45 defeat against Steinbrenner on the 28th.
