Baseball Recap: Sunset Triumphs

It may have taken ten innings to finish the job, but Sunset ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Florida Christian Patriots, sneaking past 5-3. For the Knights, this counts as revenge for the 13-4 win the Patriots walked away with the last time they faced one another back in February of 2025.

Sunset gave Diego Maldonado the start and clearly made the right call: he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over seven innings pitched. Maldonado has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Alexander Gonzalez, who went 2-for-4 with one home run.

The victory got Sunset back to even at 7-7. As for Florida Christian, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-7 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Sunset will welcome TERRA Environmental at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Florida Christian, they will be playing at home against Coral Springs Charter at 7:15 p.m. on Friday.
