Capital hasn't had much luck against Cabell Midland recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. The Cougars will venture away from home to challenge the Knights at 10:00 a.m. Capital has given up an average of 10.1 runs per game this season, but Saturday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Friday just wasn't the day for Capital's offense. They lost 11-0 to George Washington on Friday. The Cougars have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Meanwhile, Cabell Midland came tearing into Friday's matchup with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.8 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They were the clear victors by an 18-3 margin over the Big Reds. The result was nothing new for the Knights, who have now won ten contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Linda Garcia looked comfortable as she tossed three innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Becca Conrad was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. Hayla Norris was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and four RBI.
Cabell Midland always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .800. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Capital's loss dropped their record down to 3-12. As for Cabell Midland, their victory was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 13-2.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Saturday as neither team is afraid to steal. Capital has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Cabell Midland struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 2.9 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Capital suffered a grim 15-0 defeat to Cabell Midland in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Cougars avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
