Volleyball Recap: Spanish River Takes a Loss

Spanish River extended their losing streak to four on Friday, dropping them down to 3-5. They were a single set away from ending the streak, but they lost a 2-1 heartbreaker at the hands of the Western Wildcats. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Sharks of the 2-0 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in September of 2021.

Samantha Walls paced Spanish River's offense, picking up three kills. Walls got some help from Luna De Oliveira and her nine assists. Finally, Maggie Wolf kept Spanish River's defense grounded, leading the team with four blocks.

As for Western, they moved to 6-10 with that win, which also ended their three-match losing streak. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory they have posted since August 29, 2024.

Leading Western to victory were Dani Machuca and Avery Williamson. Machuca had four digs and two aces, while Williamson had three digs and three assists. That's the most digs Machuca has posted since back in August.

Spanish River didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 2-0 defeat against Palmer Trinity on the 19th. As for Western, they have also already played their next match, a 2-0 win against Mourning on the 20th.
