Basketball Game Preview: McDonogh Eagles vs. Loyola Blakefield Dons

The McDonogh Eagles will challenge the Loyola Blakefield Dons at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Last Friday, McDonogh lost to St. Frances Academy on the road by a 69-50 margin. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 40th, while the Panthers are ranked seventh).

Meanwhile, Loyola Blakefield suffered their closest loss since December 9, 2024 on Friday. They fell just short of Our Lady of Mount Carmel by a score of 68-65. The Dons haven't had much luck with the Cougars recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.

McDonogh has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 13-11 record this season. As for Loyola Blakefield, their defeat dropped their record down to 17-14.

McDonogh beat Loyola Blakefield 69-56 in their previous matchup back in January. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Loyola Blakefield's Mason Ellison, who posted 24 points.
