Football Recap: Strong Performance on D from Loniki Jackson and Nathan Jennings Leads Hawthorne over Newberry

Hawthorne barely beat Newberry the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Hornets put the hurt on the Panthers with a sharp 32-7 win on Friday. The Hornets haven't had any issues with the Panthers recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.

Richard Roundtree Jr was a one-man wrecking crew as he threw for 301 yards and three TDs while completing 80% of his passes, and also punched in one rushing score. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in rushing yards (four). Dominick Harvey also helped out as he racked up 110 receiving yards.

Hawthorne didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Loniki Jackson and Nathan Jennings.

Hawthorne's win bumped their record up to 2-0. As for Newberry, their loss dropped their record down to 0-2.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hawthorne will welcome Florida State University High School at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Newberry, they will square off against Vanguard at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
