West Potomac is 8-2 against Alexandria City since April of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Wolverines will be playing in front of their home fans against the Titans at 6:30 p.m. West Potomac is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.8 runs per game this season.
On Friday, West Potomac beat Woodson 14-10. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Wolverines.
The team relied heavily on Sabrina Driggers, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and one double. Another player making a difference was Shea Studdiford, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Alexandria City was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They came up short against Robinson, falling 13-3.
Alli Goetz was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one home run the last three times she's played. Ginger Whitley also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Alexandria City's defeat dropped their record down to 5-12. As for West Potomac, their win bumped their record up to 5-7.
Tuesday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. West Potomac hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .329. However, it's not like Alexandria City struggles in that department as they've averaged .338. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
West Potomac came out on top in a nail-biter against Alexandria City in their previous meeting back in March, sneaking past 18-16. Do the Wolverines have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Titans turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
