Baseball Recap: Watauga Takes a Loss

If Watauga was feeling good fresh off their 10-1 takedown of Alexander Central last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Pioneers fell just short of the Hibriten Panthers by a score of 6-5 on Friday. The Pioneers were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Panthers earlier this season, when they won 3-1.

Evan Burroughs made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with three RBI and one triple. Watauga is 2-1 when Burroughs posts three or more RBI, but 6-9 otherwise. Another player making a difference was JT Cook, who scored two runs while going 1-for-3.

Watauga's loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 8-10. As for Hibriten, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 11-6.

Coming up, Watauga will host Davie at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Pioneers are facing the War Eagles at the right time seeing as the War Eagles are stuck on a five-game losing streak. As for Hibriten, they will head out to challenge Alexander Central at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
