Basketball Recap: Weslaco Piles Up the Points Against St. Joseph Academy

Weslaco had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 25.5 points) and they went ahead and made it five on Thursday. They took their match with ease, bagging a 59-25 win over the St. Joseph Academy Bloodhounds. The Panthers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven contests by 23 points or more this season.

Leading Weslaco to victory were Kai L Fino and Pete Cantu. L Fino posted eight points in addition to eight assists and eight boards, while Cantu went 6 of 7 on his way to 12 points and five rebounds. That's the most assists L Fino has posted since back in November. The team also got some help courtesy of Marcus Villarreal, who had eight points and five steals.

St. Joseph Academy lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Oscar Balli, who put up six points along with 13 boards and three steals. Jason Aguilar was another key player, putting up seven points and eight rebounds.

Weslaco has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 13-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.9 points per game. As for St. Joseph Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-8.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Weslaco beat St. Joseph Academy by a score of 79-44 on Friday.
