Softball Recap: Waverly Comes Up Short

Waverly lost against Valley back in April of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The Tigers came up short against the Indians, falling 7-1. That's two games in a row now that the Tigers have lost by exactly six runs.

Lexi Smith spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and two unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.

Waverly has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-7 record this season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.4 runs over those games. As for Valley, with the victory, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 3-6.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Waverly will host Circleville at 5:15 p.m. on Thursday. As for Valley, they will be playing at home against Portsmouth West at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Senators will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something the Indians surely won't give up without a fight.
