Basketball Preview: Beaver Bobcats vs. Ambridge Bridgers
Beaver and the Bridgers are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2019, but not for long. The Beaver Bobcats will head out on the road to square off against the Ambridge Bridgers at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Beaver has three straight victories, the Bridgers have five straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Beaver scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. They walked away with a 79-66 win over Blackhawk. Given Beaver's advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 223rd, while the Cougars are ranked 495th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Beaver can attribute much of their success to Nick Krzeczowski, who almost dropped a double-double on 21 points and nine rebounds, and Brady Mayo, who scored 22 points along with seven assists and seven rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Krzeczowski has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Ty Butler, who scored 12 points along with five rebounds.
Meanwhile, Ambridge pushed their score all the way to 62 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell just short of Central Valley by a score of 64-62.
Beaver now has a winning record of 10-9. As for Ambridge, they have been struggling recently as they've lost 11 of their last 14 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-14 record this season.
Beaver came up short against the Bridgers when the teams last played back in January, falling 60-56. Can Beaver avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
