Basketball Game Preview: Perry County Vikings vs. Waverly Central Tigers

Perry County is on a four-game streak of home losses, Waverly Central a four-game streak of away losses, but someone's luck will change on Monday. The Perry County Vikings will host the Waverly Central Tigers at 7:30 p.m. Perry County is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 51.2 points per game this season.

Last Friday, Perry County opened the new year with a less-than-successful 49-42 loss to Houston County. While the Vikings didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Fighting Irish 16-10 in the first quarter.

The match pitted two dominant guards against one another in Colton Pevahouse and Casen Clark. Clark had a solid game and posted ten points. Meanwhile, Pevahouse did his best for the losing side, going 6 for 15 on his way to 14 points and six rebounds.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Waverly Central). They enjoyed a cozy 71-56 victory over Montgomery Central on Friday. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Tigers as it put an end to their seven-game losing streak.

Perry County's defeat dropped their record down to 2-11. As for Waverly Central, their victory ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 2-9.

Perry County beat Waverly Central 59-52 in their previous matchup back in January of 2024. Will Perry County repeat their success, or does Waverly Central have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
