Baseball Recap: Elgin Takes a Loss

If Elgin was feeling good fresh off their 14-2 takedown of Hardin Northern on Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Comets fell 7-2 to the Mt. Gilead Indians on Saturday. The Comets were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Indians apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2025.

Elgin got a good showing from Cam Elswick, who pitched four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits.

At the plate, Elgin saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mason Timmons, who went 1-for-3 with one run.

Elgin has also been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-8 record this season. As for Mt. Gilead, their win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-5.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Elgin will square off against Ridgedale at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Mt. Gilead, they will face off against East Knox at 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
