Basketball Game Preview: Powdersville Patriots vs. St. Joseph's Catholic Knights

The Powdersville Patriots will challenge the St. Joseph's Catholic Knights at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Powdersville's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last 13 contests.

On Wednesday, Powdersville blew past Southside Christian, posting an 85-50 victory. The Patriots have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven matches by 20 points or more this season.

Powdersville had a senior duo take command as Quan Burton went 10 for 11 en route to 26 points and five steals and Von Burton went 8 of 19 on his way to 22 points and seven rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Quan has scored all season. Jaleel McGee was another key player, putting up seven points in addition to seven assists and seven boards.

Powdersville smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in six consecutive games.

Meanwhile, St. Joseph's Catholic waltzed into their contest on Tuesday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They strolled past the Trojans with points to spare, taking the game 47-28. Given the Knights' advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 70th, while the Trojans are ranked 292nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

St. Joseph's Catholic's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-5. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.3 points per game. As for Powdersville, they are on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 matches, which provided a massive bump to their 15-8 record this season.

Powdersville was able to grind out a solid victory over St. Joseph's Catholic in their previous meeting back in January, winning 57-48. Does Powdersville have another victory up their sleeve, or will St. Joseph's Catholic turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
